local food startup internship
Food should be shared!

Do you want to grow communities around food? Would you like to see technology help people grow their own food and share it with neighbors? If you answered yes to either of those questions, hurray!  We have an internship opportunity made for you.

Giving Garden is a local Davis startup with a big, global mission to grow communities around food and food around communities. We are focused on building local food and gardening communities with the help of technology. We specifically want to bring food knowledge and produce sharing into the 21st century with all the data and social tools that are at our generations fingertips.

To do this, we will be launching our first local food and social gardening app in the Summer of 2017 and are looking for interns to help us reach the communities we’ll be serving, including Davis and Sacramento. The app will use crowdsourced data to help gardeners grow the right foods based on their location and community, will enable gardeners and local food lovers to give and get extra home-grown produce, and it will grow communities around food, through profiles, knowledge-exchange and social tools.

We are looking for interns (college students and high schools students are welcome) to join our efforts to reach communities in  Davis and other communities in the Yolo and Sacramento counties. Please read the description below and email your availability, cover letter and resume to  interns@givinggarden.io if you are interested.

As a Giving Garden intern you will be working directly with the CEO, who has experience growing products and communities at companies like Xbox, YouTube and Flipboard. For our Community Manager and Communications internship you will be working on writing, content production, social media, and community management and outreach. We also have roles available for students focused on UI/UX design, data science and computer programming.

Hours are very flexible: 5-10 hours a week at your convenience with a single biweekly (every other week) team meeting. Your education is the priority so we are extremely flexible with hours and ask that interns do what they can when they can.

Internships are currently unpaid, but you’ll get hands on social media, content marketing and community management training and experience, continual mentorship and advice on career paths and growth, and valuable connections and experiences that will help you on your path to an awesome career.  For those applying for UI/UX design, data science or engineering positions, you will also get hands on experience and the chance to learn from 3 senior engineers and the CEO, who has several years of product management experience working directly with engineers, designers and data scientists.

To apply, please send a cover letter, links to any blogs or social media accounts you may have managed (if applicable), and a resume/CV to interns@givinggarden.io.

We’d love to hear from you!

– The Giving Garden Team
